About me
PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION
Once I had kids in my late twenties and they started eating table food, it was time for me to learn how to cook and provide healthy meals for my family. Looking back at that time, I didn’t have the knowledge of what made up a healthy meal. I thought a sandwich with chips and cookies was a balanced meal. Anyone relate?
My relationship with food was truthfully based on lack of understanding of what constituted whole dense foods as well as falling for whatever the latest advertising was for “healthy” convenience foods marketed for busy working Moms. I was also majorly drawn to follow whatever the latest diet craze was: low fat, low carb, high protein, and so on. I thought if I could find the perfect diet; then I would be set. Looking back, this was not ideal nourishment for my family’s health and it took me a long time to realize that diets don’t work. My family needed something simpler and more sustainable: a healthy lifestyle.
It’s been a journey to find our healthy lifestyle and use food as medicine, and here’s something important I’ve learned over time; incremental changes like drinking more water, making your own salad dressing, shopping at a local farmers market, using fresh herbs in recipes, and cooking at home will add up to BIG benefits such as decreased inflammation, disease prevention, increased energy, weight loss, and so much more. One step at a time... progress over perfection.
